JW Usage

JWs read through the lens of , where the chain of authority runs from God to Jesus to the angel to John. They argue that Jesus saying "I sent my angel" simply means he relayed Jehovah's angel as an intermediary — the angel ultimately belongs to God, and Jesus acts as God's agent in forwarding it. This agency model allows JWs to avoid the implication that Jesus exercises the same authority as Jehovah.

Protestant Usage

is the linchpin of two interconnected arguments. First, the "I, Jesus" self-identification settles the speaker question for the entire closing chain of Revelation 22. The same speaker who says "I am coming quickly" (v.12), who claims "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last" (v.13), now identifies himself as Jesus. There is no ambiguity — Jesus has taken upon himself the very titles that Jehovah claims exclusively in . Second, the phrase "I sent my angel" creates a direct parallel with , where Jehovah sent "his angel." Same angel, same mission, both claiming personal ownership with possessive language. The text does not say "the angel of God whom I forwarded" — Jesus claims the angel as his own. If only Jehovah can send this angel, and Jesus says "I sent my angel," then Jesus is exercising Jehovah's exclusive prerogative. This argument is devastatingly simple: two verses, ten apart, same chapter, using the JW's own Bible.
