John 3:17
John 3:1717For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.
JWs read as Jesus describing his earthly mission as preparatory: he came not to render the final judgement (which is reserved for a later moment in Watchtower eschatology, often associated with Armageddon) but to provide the ransom that opens the way to everlasting life for those who exercise faith and remain loyal to Jehovah's organisation. The verse is treated as gospel- posture without complicating the broader two-class soteriology.
is one of the cleanest expressions in scripture of the pastoral heart of God. The Father did not send the Son into the world to condemn it; he sent him to save it. Pair this verse with (the sympathetic high priest who invites confident approach), (Jesus' own invitation to the weary and burdened), and (Christ died for us while we were still sinners). The cross is upstream of the believer's repentance, not downstream of it. On the doorstep — especially with a Witness who has been before a judicial committee or fears one — this verse reframes the interaction with God: the Son's posture toward the struggling sinner is rescue, not interrogation. The Father runs to the prodigal while the prodigal is still a long way off (); the Son was sent on the same errand. That is not a tribunal; that is a throne of grace.
