2 Corinthians 3:18
2 Corinthians 3:1818And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
The Watchtower teaches that real human transformation — freedom from sin's pull, full restoration of the divine image — is a millennial hope. During the thousand-year reign of Christ, the great crowd will gradually be brought to perfection; the present Christian life is about compliance, loyalty, and endurance, not radical inner renewal. therefore applies, at best, to the anointed class — and even for them, full transformation is post-resurrection.
Paul's Greek is decisive: metamorphoumetha — a present passive participle, "we are being transformed." Present tense. Ongoing. Happening now. Not deferred to a future age. And the subject is "we all, with unveiled faces" — no limitation to a specific class, no partition between anointed and earthly classes.
Put alongside the other present-tense transformation texts and the pattern is unmistakable: ("if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come" — past tense, already a reality), (put off the old self, be made new, put on the new), ("be transformed by the renewing of your mind"), ("the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge"), ("he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion"). The New Testament is consistent: transformation is a present Spirit-powered reality for all who are in Christ. If real change is only millennial, most of Paul's verbs are in the wrong tense.
