OT Prophets
Zechariah 3:1
1Then the angel showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, with Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

JW Usage

JWs read this as a literal heavenly courtroom scene with Satan as the legal accuser of God's faithful servants — affirming Satan's reality and strategic activity. They sometimes use the scene to warn against association with anyone who criticises the organisation, framing such criticism as Satanic accusation.

Protestant Usage

is decisive evidence that Satan in scripture is a localised creature, not a functional omnipresence. He stands at Joshua's right hand — in one place, in one posture, accusing one priest. The grammar treats Satan as a discrete person who occupies a specific spatial position before the angel of Jehovah. Pair this with (Satan reports his itinerary on the earth) and (Satan prowls like a lion) — the cumulative picture is a movable creature with limited reach. Once Satan is restored to creaturely scale, the JW reflex of attributing every doubt to Satan loses its theological footing.
