JW Usage

JWs acknowledge that is a powerful statement but read it as conditional: the believer must remain faithful to the end. Assurance of salvation is considered presumptuous — no one can know with certainty until they have been tested and proved worthy. The Watchtower teaches that believers who fall away can lose everything, so the passage is a statement of God's willingness to keep the faithful, not an unconditional guarantee.

Protestant Usage

Paul's declaration is exhaustive: "neither death nor life, nor angels nor governments, nor things now here nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other creation will be able to separate us from God's love." The list is deliberately all-encompassing — Paul searches every category of reality and finds nothing with the power to sever the bond. First confirms: "I write you these things so that you may know that you have life everlasting." The Bible says believers can know they have eternal life now; the Watchtower says they cannot. This contradiction touches the deepest anxiety in every JW's life. supplies Paul's own logic: "since we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved from wrath through him." If God has done the hard part (declaring sinners righteous), he will not fail at the easy part (bringing them home). The golden chain of has five links and zero dropouts: foreknew, predestined, called, justified, glorified — every person in the first link reaches the last.
