Revelation 5:11

NT Prophecy
Revelation 5:11
11Then I looked, and I heard the voices of many angels and living creatures and elders encircling the throne, and their number was myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands.

JW Usage

Watchtower commentary takes as describing the heavenly throne room scene with myriads of angels surrounding Jehovah and the Lamb. The angels stand "around the throne and the living creatures and the elders" — confirming the angelic hierarchy and the heavenly setting from which Jehovah's rule is exercised. The verse fits the Watchtower's broader picture of heaven as a structured organisational realm.

Protestant Usage

This verse extends the throne-location anchor from 4:2. The angels stand "around the throne" — a heavenly setting, no ambiguity. So when places the great crowd "before the throne" using the same Greek phrase enōpion tou thronou, they are in the same heavenly setting as the angels in 5:11. The phrase "before the throne" is consistent across Revelation: angels (5:11, 7:11), elders (4:10, 14:3), and the great crowd (7:9, 7:15). All in heaven. The Watchtower must explain why "before the throne" means "in heaven" for angels and elders but "on earth in sight of heaven" for the great crowd alone.
