Revelation 22:1

NT Prophecy
Revelation 22:1
1Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb

JW Usage

Watchtower commentary reads as confirming that Jehovah and the Lamb share a throne — but as two distinct persons in distinct relationship. The Lamb is honoured alongside God, not identified with God. The shared throne is taken to prove subordination plus partnership, not unity of being.

Protestant Usage

Trinitarians agree the Father and the Son are distinct persons — that is not the issue. The issue is the singular pronoun in v3: "his slaves will offer him sacred service" (NWT). One throne, one "him," one act of service, two persons. The shared throne is precisely what Trinitarian theology predicts: distinction of persons within unity of being. The river of water of life flows from a single source — the unified throne of God and the Lamb — and invites "anyone who wishes" to drink. The invitation is universal, the source is one, the throne is shared.

When it is objected that the Spirit has no throne in this scene, note how John's Gospel uses the same image. Jesus promised "streams of living water," and John explains, "he said this concerning the spirit" (; compare 4:14). Ezekiel 47 pictures a life-giving river flowing from God's temple. Many interpreters therefore read the river flowing from the one throne as the Spirit, the Giver of life proceeding from the Father and the Son. This is an interpretive reading, so offer it as a connection rather than a proof.
