# Revelation 19:16

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "On his outer garment, yes, on his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords"

## JW Usage

The rider on the white horse in Revelation 19 is identified by Watchtower commentary as Christ at his second coming, executing Jehovah's judgment on the wicked. The "King of kings and Lord of lords" inscription is treated as a delegated title — Jesus has been given the kingship by Jehovah and conquers Jehovah's enemies on Jehovah's behalf.

## Protestant Usage

Pair Revelation 19:16 with Deuteronomy 10:17: "Jehovah your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awe-inspiring God." The exclusive divine title — Lord of lords — is given to Jehovah in Deuteronomy and applied to Jesus in Revelation. And 1 Timothy 6:15-16 describes "the King of kings and Lord of lords" as the one who "alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light." If that description belongs to the Father alone, and Revelation 19:16 inscribes the same title on the rider, then Jesus shares the Father's identity. The title is not delegated; it is borne. The NWT itself preserves the exact wording.
