Revelation 19:15
Revelation 19:1515And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.
JWs point to the closing words, "the wrath of God the Almighty," to argue that the rider on the white horse is distinct from God the Almighty and serves as his executioner. On this reading the verse shows that Jesus is never himself the Almighty.
The verse does distinguish the Son from the Father, which the doctrine of the Trinity affirms. But the winepress image comes from , where Jehovah says he trod the winepress alone, with no one from the peoples beside him and no one to help. Revelation gives that same solitary act of divine judgement to the rider, whose name in verse 13 is "The Word of God" and who in verse 16 bears the title "King of kings and Lord of lords" (compare ). The Son carries out the wrath of God as one who shares in God's own work of judgement, not as a creature recruited to help.
