# Revelation 17:14

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> They will make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will triumph over them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and He will be accompanied by His called and chosen and faithful ones.”

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, the Lamb will conquer them"

## JW Usage

Watchtower commentary applies "Lord of lords and King of kings" to Jesus as a delegated title — given to him by Jehovah, just as kings have been given authority over earthly kingdoms in Scripture (Daniel 2:37 of Nebuchadnezzar; Ezekiel 26:7 again of Nebuchadnezzar). The Lamb is the highest king under Jehovah, but Jehovah remains the supreme sovereign.

## Protestant Usage

Notice the structure of v14. The Lamb conquers "because he is Lord of lords and King of kings" — the title is the cause of the conquering, not an office he was appointed to perform a function. He IS this. And in 1 Timothy 6:15-16 "the King of kings and Lord of lords" is the one who "alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light" — the standard description of the Father. The same exclusive title applied to Jesus in Revelation 17:14 and 19:16 makes the identification: Jesus bears the name that belongs to God alone. Old Testament human-emperor uses (Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus) operate at the Daniel 2:37 level; the divine use of Deuteronomy 10:17 ("God of gods and Lord of lords") is the level Revelation applies to Jesus.

## Arguments Using This Verse
