Revelation 14:3
Revelation 14:33And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. And no one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
The Watchtower reads 14:3 ("144,000 who had been bought from the earth") literally as the count of the anointed heavenly class. The "new song" is a heavenly song sung by the remnant group in the heavenly throne-room, distinct from the great crowd's earthly worship. The verse anchors the hard number of the heavenly class and is used alongside as the central Watchtower proof-text for the 144,000 literal ceiling.
uses the same literary pattern as Revelation 5 and 7: John HEARS a number (144,000) and SEES a reality (an uncountable multitude standing before the throne). The 144,000 is a 12 × 12 × 1,000 symbolic formula for the completeness of God's people. The surrounding descriptors — male, virgin, Jewish from twelve named tribes (Rev 7:4-8) — the Watchtower itself reads symbolically. At the door: "The 144,000 are described as male, as virgins, as Jewish from twelve named tribes. The Watchtower reads ONLY the number literally. If any of the descriptors are symbolic, the number must be too — the text gives no signal that one detail reads differently from the rest." Pair with the heaven-is-presence argument: the "song before the throne" is not a real-estate destination; it is God's presence.
