# Revelation 14:17

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "And still another angel emerged from the temple sanctuary that is in heaven"

## JW Usage

Watchtower commentary takes Revelation 14:17 as a parallel scene to v15 — another angel emerges from the heavenly sanctuary, this time wielding the sickle that gathers the vine of the earth for the great winepress of God's wrath. The emphasis falls on the executive judgment of the wicked, with the heavenly sanctuary as the authoritative source.

## Protestant Usage

Note the explicit phrase: "the temple sanctuary that is in heaven." The verse hands you the location of every other Revelation naos use without ambiguity. Naos consistently refers to the heavenly inner sanctuary throughout the book — 4:2-11, 7:15, 11:19, 14:15, 14:17, 15:5-8, 16:1, 16:17. So when Revelation 7:15 says the great crowd "renders sacred service day and night in his temple," it means the heavenly sanctuary too. The Watchtower would need to explain why naos means "heaven" in every other verse and suddenly means "earth" in 7:15. The verse here removes any ambiguity about where Revelation's temple is.
