# Psalms 96:5

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> For all the gods of the nations are idols, but it is the LORD who made the heavens.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "All the gods of the peoples are worthless gods, But Jehovah is the one who made the heavens."

## Protestant Usage

Psalm 96:5 sets the true God apart from every other "god" by one act: creation. "All the gods of the peoples are worthless gods, but Jehovah is the one who made the heavens." Making the heavens is the mark that separates Jehovah from all lesser gods. With Isaiah 44:24, Nehemiah 9:6 and Psalm 102:25, it belongs to the cumulative case that the Creator is Jehovah alone, which is why the New Testament's statements that all things were made through the Son (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:10) place him on the Creator's side of that line, not among the "gods."
