Psalms 89:6

OT Poetry
Psalms 89:6
6For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD?
Read in NWT ↗
JW Usage

JWs read as confirming Jehovah's incomparability among spiritual beings. Jesus, being "a god" but not Jehovah, is held to be one of the "sons of God" referenced here — superior to other creatures but decisively below the Father. The verse is treated as evidence for the two-category framework: Jehovah on one side, all other elohim (including Jesus) on the other.

Protestant Usage

This is the syllogism's keystone. Read in the JW's own NWT: "Who in the skies can compare to Jehovah? Who among the sons of God is like Jehovah?" The implied answer is nobody. Now place next to it: Jesus is "the exact representation of [God's] very being." If no son of God can resemble Jehovah, and Jesus is the exact representation of Jehovah's being, the contradiction is forced unless Jesus is not merely a son of God but Jehovah himself. The argument needs no Greek, no contested NWT rendering, and no external scholarship — only consistent reading of the JW's own Bible. Let the contradiction sit; do not rush to fill the silence.
