Psalms 86:10
Psalms 86:1010For You are great and perform wonders; You alone are God.
JWs read as one of the strongest affirmations of strict unitarian monotheism. "You alone are God" is taken to settle the question: the Father alone is God, and Jesus must therefore be a separate, subordinate being. The verse is frequently cited at the doorstep against any Trinitarian reading.
"You alone are God" is exactly right — the question is who counts as the "you." says Jesus is "the exact representation of [God's] very being" (NWT). If Jesus exactly represents the being of the one who alone is God, then either Jesus shares that one being, or contradicts . The Trinitarian reading holds both: there is one divine being, and that one being subsists in three persons — Father, Son, Spirit — who share the singular nature. The unity of God is not threatened by Trinitarian theology; it is preserved by it.
