Psalms 8:7
Psalms 8:77all sheep and oxen, and even the beasts of the field,
JWs cite as part of the "all things have exceptions" defence. The Psalm continues the inventory of what is subject to mankind — and obviously this catalogue does not include God. By analogy, "all things" elsewhere in Scripture (especially ) can also have natural, common-sense exceptions.
The Hebrews 2 author quotes Psalm 8 about mankind, then in v8-9 pivots: "we do not yet see all things subject to him… but we see Jesus." The Psalm's catalogue of subjected things — flocks, cattle, wild animals, fish, birds — is universal in scope, but Hebrews 2 says we do not yet see this fulfilled in Adam. The fulfilment is in Jesus: "crowned with glory and honour" (v9), "Chief Agent of their salvation" (v10). The "exceptions" argument reads Psalm 8 isolated from its NT application; reading the passage Hebrews 2 actually builds upon makes Jesus the goal of Psalm 8, not a footnote within it.
