# Psalms 8:7

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> all sheep and oxen, and even the beasts of the field,

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "All the flocks and cattle, As well as the wild animals"

## JW Usage

JWs cite Psalm 8:7 as part of the "all things have exceptions" defence. The Psalm continues the inventory of what is subject to mankind — and obviously this catalogue does not include God. By analogy, "all things" elsewhere in Scripture (especially Colossians 1:16) can also have natural, common-sense exceptions.

## Protestant Usage

The Hebrews 2 author quotes Psalm 8 about mankind, then in v8-9 pivots: "we do not yet see all things subject to him… but we see Jesus." The Psalm's catalogue of subjected things — flocks, cattle, wild animals, fish, birds — is universal in scope, but Hebrews 2 says we do not yet see this fulfilled in Adam. The fulfilment is in Jesus: "crowned with glory and honour" (v9), "Chief Agent of their salvation" (v10). The "exceptions" argument reads Psalm 8 isolated from its NT application; reading the passage Hebrews 2 actually builds upon makes Jesus the goal of Psalm 8, not a footnote within it.
