Psalms 8:6
Psalms 8:66You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet:
Jehovah's Witnesses use ("You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honour") in connection with , where the passage is applied to Jesus. They argue this shows Jesus was a created being placed in a position subordinate to God, then later exalted. Additionally, JWs cite the phrase "all things under his feet" to argue that "all things" in Scripture can have natural exceptions — just as "all things" subject to mankind excludes God and angels, so "all things" created through Jesus in can exclude Jesus himself from the created order. This supports their claim that Jesus was the first creation through whom everything else was made.
Protestants observe that the author of Hebrews deliberately applies Psalm 8 to Jesus in a way that transcends the original Adamic reference. notes that "we do not yet see all things subject to him," but verse 9 pivots: "but we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honour." The "little while" is the incarnation — a temporary lowering, not a permanent ontological status. The critical move comes in , where the author says all things exist "for" and "through" God (the Father). applies the identical prepositional formula — "through him" and "for him" — to Jesus. The same divine Creator language is used for both the Father and the Son. Furthermore, Paul in exhausts every Greek category (heaven, earth, visible, invisible, thrones, dominions, rulers, authorities), leaving no room for exceptions. The JW's own proof-text in Hebrews 2 ends up confirming that Jesus shares the Father's Creator prerogatives.
