# Psalms 25:11

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> For the sake of Your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, for it is great.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "For the sake of your name, O Jehovah, Forgive my error, though it is great."

## JW Usage

Cited for the importance of Jehovah's name and for his willingness to forgive. The Watchtower emphasises that pardon is granted for the sake of the divine name, which fits its teaching that vindicating that name is the central issue in the universe.

## Protestant Usage

Notice the ground of the request. David does not ask for forgiveness because his error is small — he says it is great. He asks for the sake of Jehovah's name. That is the Old Testament pattern, and it is worth collecting. Psalm 79:9: rescue us and forgive our sins for the sake of your name. Psalm 54:1: save me by your name. Isaiah 43:25: I am the one who wipes out your transgressions for my own sake. Forgiveness is repeatedly grounded in the divine name and in nothing else. Now the second stack. Luke 24:47: repentance for forgiveness of sins proclaimed on the basis of his name — Jesus'. Acts 10:43: everyone believing in him receives forgiveness through his name. Acts 4:12: no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Build both stacks before drawing any conclusion, and let the Witness see the shape. Then ask: in the Hebrew Scriptures, could pardon be asked for in any name but Jehovah's? Compare Psalms 79:9, Psalms 54:1, Luke 24:47.

## Arguments Using This Verse

- [The Salvation-Name Dilemma](https://jw-apologetics.app/arguments/salvation-name-dilemma.md) — Old Testament — only Jehovah's name saves. New Testament — only Jesus' name saves. [Deity of Christ]
