# Psalms 147:5

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "Our Lord is great and is mighty in power; His understanding is beyond measure."

## JW Usage

Affirmed without difficulty as praise of Jehovah's power and unlimited understanding. Witnesses use it in discussions of God's wisdom and of his ability to fulfil his purposes.

## Protestant Usage

The claim is that God's understanding has no measure — it cannot be exhausted or fully mapped by a creature. Take that seriously and it settles the form of the Trinity conversation. If God's understanding is beyond measure, then the inability of a human mind to model his inner life is exactly what the Bible leads you to expect. It is not evidence that a revealed doctrine is false; it is what a creature encountering the Creator should anticipate. The move to make with a Witness is to surface the hidden premise in "I can't picture it, so it isn't true." That premise makes human comprehension the standard of divine truth, and this verse denies it. Most Witnesses will agree without hesitation, because the language is entirely familiar to them. Then the question changes shape, which is the whole aim: not whether the doctrine fits a human model, but whether God revealed it. Compare Isaiah 55:8, Romans 11:33, Deuteronomy 29:29.
