# Psalms 104:3

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> laying the beams of His chambers in the waters above, making the clouds His chariot, walking on the wings of the wind.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "He lays the beams of his upper rooms in the waters above, Making the clouds his chariot, Moving on the wings of the wind."

## JW Usage

Read straightforwardly as poetic description of Jehovah's majesty over creation. JWs have no difficulty with the imagery and would not connect it to Christology; cloud-riding is simply a picture of God's transcendence and power over the natural world.

## Protestant Usage

Cloud-riding is not decorative in the Hebrew Bible. It is a recurring marker of divine arrival, and it belongs to one figure. Here Jehovah makes the clouds his chariot. Isaiah 19:1 has Jehovah riding on a swift cloud into Egypt. Nahum 1:3 says the clouds are the dust of his feet. Deuteronomy 33:26 has him riding the heavens to help his people. Across the Hebrew Scriptures, no creature ever comes on the clouds — not an angel, not a prophet, not a king. Then Daniel 7:13: with the clouds of the heavens, someone like a son of man was coming. And Jesus, under oath before the high priest, says the Sanhedrin will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven — at which the high priest tears his robes. This is a good verse to lay a foundation with early, before Daniel 7 comes up at all. Establish who rides the clouds first, and the later conversation does its own work. Compare Isaiah 19:1, Nahum 1:3, Matthew 26:63.
