# Psalms 102:25

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.

## JW Usage

JWs recognise Psalm 102:25-27 as addressed to Jehovah, celebrating his eternal nature and creative power. When Hebrews 1:10-12 applies this exact passage to the Son, the Watchtower argues the quotation merely illustrates that God created "through" the Son as an instrument, not that the Son shares Jehovah's eternality. The Son is held to be the first and greatest of Jehovah's creations — a position that requires deflecting the force of an eternality psalm being applied directly to him.

## Protestant Usage

The author of Hebrews quotes Psalm 102:25-27 — a passage addressed exclusively to YHWH — and applies every word of it to the Son (Hebrews 1:10-12). The NWT's own cross-references link these passages. An attribute that belongs to Jehovah alone — eternality and unchangeability ("You are the same, and your years will never end") — is ascribed to Jesus without qualification. The NWT's Jehovah-name insertion programme exposes the tension further: despite the OT source being addressed to YHWH, Hebrews 1:10 renders it "O Lord" rather than "O Jehovah." Even the Watchtower's own cited J8 reference reads "Lord Jehovah" here, yet the NWT ignores its own evidence. The insertion is avoided precisely because it would explicitly identify the Son as YHWH. Isaiah 44:24 says Jehovah created the heavens alone — if Psalm 102:25 attributes that same creative work to the Son, the Son must share Jehovah's identity.

## NWT Issue

The NWT's selective Jehovah-insertion programme creates an inconsistency at this passage. Psalm 102:25 addresses YHWH, and Hebrews 1:10 quotes it about the Son — yet the NWT retains "Lord" in Hebrews 1:10 rather than inserting "Jehovah," breaking its own stated methodology. The Watchtower's cited J8 reference reads "Lord Jehovah" here, but the NWT ignores its own supporting evidence because inserting "Jehovah" would explicitly identify Jesus as YHWH.
