receives no JW apologetic engagement directly. The verse establishes that Levi has no land inheritance among the tribes of Israel — Jehovah himself is Levi's portion. The verse becomes apologetically relevant when paired with Revelation 7's list of the 144,000 sealed from twelve tribes, where Levi is listed but Dan is omitted and Manasseh appears separately from Joseph.

Protestant Usage

Pair with . The Watchtower reads the 144,000 as a literal numerical group sealed from literal tribes of Israel. But the Revelation 7 tribal list is symbolic, not historical: Levi (which had no land inheritance, per ) is listed among the land-holding tribes; Manasseh is named separately from Joseph (which never happens in Old Testament tribal lists); Dan is missing entirely. The list signals symbolic-fullness imagery (12 × 12 × 1,000), not a literal census. Pair with (the heard/seen pattern: John hears "Lion of Judah," sees a Lamb — same person, two descriptions) and (the great crowd from every tribe and tongue, which IS the 144,000 viewed from a different angle). The two-class reading — 144,000 anointed in heaven, great crowd on earth — splits what Revelation unites by literary structure.
