# Matthew 25:40

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

## JW Usage

JWs interpret "the least of these my brothers" as referring exclusively to the anointed remnant of the 144,000. Helping "Christ's brothers" means supporting the Governing Body and the anointed class through preaching, donations, and organisational loyalty. The great crowd's relationship to Christ is mediated through service to the anointed.

## Protestant Usage

Jesus identifies himself with the hungry, thirsty, naked, sick, and imprisoned — "whatever you did for one of the least of these my brothers, you did for me." The universal scope of the parable — "all the nations" judged by how they treated the vulnerable — challenges the Watchtower's cosmic neutrality doctrine. The same teaching that prevents JWs from going to war would have prevented them from marching at Selma. The Protestant tradition produced the civil rights movement from inside its own failures; the JW tradition, by doctrine, could not have produced it even in principle. Jesus' identification with the vulnerable creates a positive obligation to act, not merely to preach about a future paradise where suffering will end.
