Mark 14:64
Mark 14:6464You have heard the blasphemy. What is your verdict?” And they all condemned Him as deserving of death.
The Watchtower reads "you heard the blasphemy" as the high priest's own characterisation, not as an accurate verdict on what Jesus said. The unanimous condemnation by the Sanhedrin is treated as a politically motivated kangaroo court rather than as a careful legal application of (the death penalty for blasphemy). The whole scene is read as Jewish leaders who refused the Messiah, not as an accurate Jewish-legal response to a divine identity claim.
Take the verdict at face value: in Second Temple Jewish law, Messianic claims alone did not warrant the death penalty (Bar Kokhba and other failed Messiahs were politically suppressed but not legally executed for blasphemy). Capital blasphemy required someone to claim divine prerogatives that belong to Jehovah alone — and that is what Caiaphas heard Jesus do when he combined Daniel 7 and Psalm 110. The Sanhedrin's unanimous verdict is evidence about the content of Jesus's claim, not about Jewish political bias. They understood, and they applied the law as it stood. The verdict is the strongest external interpretive clue we have for what Jesus meant in v. 62 — and it is incompatible with the Watchtower's reading that he made only a Messianic claim.
