# Mark 14:62

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> “I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "Then Jesus said: 'I am; and you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power and coming with the clouds of heaven.'"

## JW Usage

The Watchtower reads Jesus's "I am" (egō eimi) as a simple affirmative — "yes, I am the Christ" — and treats the Daniel-7 / Psalm-110 combination as a Messianic claim only. The Son of Man on the clouds is read as an apocalyptic figure who receives delegated authority from Jehovah; the right hand of Power is the position of honour, not co-regency. The high priest's reaction in v. 63 (tearing his robes) is treated as overheated political theatre or misunderstanding rather than as an accurate read of a deity claim.

## Protestant Usage

Read v. 62 with vv. 60-64 as a single courtroom unit. The high priest asked under oath whether Jesus was "the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One." Jesus answered "I am" and immediately combined Daniel 7:13 (the Son of Man on the clouds receiving universal eternal dominion) with Psalm 110:1 (sitting at Jehovah's own right hand, the seat of co-regency). Each text alone is extraordinary; together they attribute to the Son of Man what Daniel 7:14 says is appropriate worship by all nations and what Psalm 110 says is Jehovah's own throne. Pair Mark 14:62 with Daniel 7:13-14 and Psalm 110:1 — read all three in the Witness's NWT and let the Sanhedrin's reaction in v. 63 do the interpretive work. The hostile witnesses understood. They convicted Jesus of blasphemy for combining these texts because in Second Temple Judaism, only a divine identity claim could trigger the death penalty; a Messianic claim alone (Bar Kokhba, others) did not.
