Mark 10:28
Mark 10:2828Peter began to say to Him, “Look, we have left everything and followed You.”
JWs read as Peter's earnest acknowledgement of the cost the apostles bore — leaving fishing nets, tax tables, and family routines to follow Jesus. The verse is sometimes used pastorally to encourage Witnesses who have made similar sacrifices for the ministry: pioneering, declining secular career advancement, or moving to congregations with greater need.
records Peter naming the cost out loud — "Look! We have left all things and followed you." Peter's words come right after the rich young ruler walks away unwilling to lose his earthly inheritance (). Jesus' response in the next verse (10:29-30) sets the reimbursement: a hundredfold now in this period of time and everlasting life in the coming system. The structure of the passage matters for the doorstep conversation: Peter is the archetype of the disciple who has lost family, livelihood, and community for Christ — and Christ does not lecture him for the question; Christ promises him reimbursement. On the doorstep, especially with a Witness wavering about leaving or with an ex-JW grieving the loss of family, this verse names the cost honestly and locates it within a long apostolic tradition. Peter has been there. Christ knew Peter would ask. The promise that follows is not a vague spiritual consolation; it is concrete, present, and eternal.
