Luke 10:7

NT Gospels
Luke 10:7
7Stay at the same house, eating and drinking whatever you are offered. For the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move around from house to house.

JW Usage

The Watchtower cites as a model for the modern preaching work — disciples sent out two-by-two, going from village to village proclaiming the Kingdom. The "worthy of his wages" clause in v. 7 is read as biblical warrant for the organisation's ministerial system. itself receives little commentary beyond this generic framing; the verse's explicit prohibition — "do not keep transferring from house to house" — is rarely engaged because the JW house-to-house ministry is the very thing it forbids.

Protestant Usage

Lead with the verse in the Witness's own NWT — Jesus's instruction is unmistakable: "do not keep transferring from house to house." When Jesus actually addresses the question of how disciples should be received in a village (, ), his command is the opposite of door-to-door canvassing. Find a receptive household; stay there until you move on. Then show the Greek distinction between (ex oikias eis oikian — out of house into house, the prohibited movement) and / (kat' oikon — in each house, describing where the apostles taught believers, not how they evangelised strangers). The NWT itself proves the distinction by translating the same kat' oikon as "from house to house" at but "in different homes" at — different English renderings for the same Greek phrase, because the Watchtower needs to validate its method while obviously refers to meals in homes.
