John 6:65
John 6:6565Then Jesus said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless the Father has granted it to him.”
The verse is rarely emphasised in JW teaching because it sits awkwardly with the Watchtower's appeal-to-the-individual model of conversion. If "no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father," the seeker's free study and personal decision are no longer the foundational acts. JW evangelism usually moves past quickly or treats "granted" as a generic provision of Bible literature and study aids rather than as a sovereign drawing.
This is Jesus' own restatement of — and the third time in one chapter (after verses 37 and 44) that he locates the initiative of salvation with the Father. The Greek dedomenon ("granted, given") is in the perfect tense: a settled gift, not a moment-by-moment universal invitation. No one comes unless this granting has happened. Ask: "If a Witness must be granted by the Father before they can come to the Son, what is the role of the organisation in that granting? And what happens to the doctrine of personal-research-and-decide if Jesus says coming is impossible apart from the Father's gift?" The verse undoes the JW pathway not by attacking it but by relocating its ground.
