# John 6:44

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.

## JW Usage

JW evangelism assumes that a seeker can research, weigh evidence, and decide to join the organisation — the initiative is personal and intellectual. John 6:44 is acknowledged but the "drawing" is typically treated as Jehovah creating circumstances (providing the Witness at the door, the literature to read, the study programme) that make an informed decision possible. The drawing and the deciding are blended so that the decisive initiative remains with the seeker.

## Protestant Usage

Jesus says "no one CAN come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him." Ability to come is not given to the seeker absolutely; it is granted by the Father. Three times in the same chapter Jesus locates the initiative in the Father (6:37, 6:44, 6:65) and grounds the outcome in his own preservation ("I will raise him up on the last day"). At the door, pair with 1 Corinthians 2:14 (the natural man cannot receive spiritual things) and John 1:13 (born not of the will of a man but of God). The JW "research and decide" epistemology is exactly what Jesus says cannot produce coming to him — the drawing that enables the coming is God's work, not yours.
