# John 15:24

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have both seen me and hated me as well as my Father."

## JW Usage

Read as Jesus establishing the guilt of those who rejected him despite clear evidence — Jehovah's power was displayed through him and they refused it anyway. The works are understood as performed by Jehovah through his servant, which keeps the credentials with the Father.

## Protestant Usage

Notice what Jesus is willing to stake his case on: works that no one else did. Not his sincerity, not his teaching's coherence, not the size of his following. Publicly verifiable acts that had no parallel. Read alongside John 10:38 — "believe the works" — and John 14:11, he offers his opponents an evidential test and invites them to apply it. He is not asking to be believed on assertion. That sets a standard worth carrying into any conversation about religious authority. The question "what did this person do that no one else could do?" is Jesus' own question, and it is answerable. The second half of the verse is quietly striking too: they have seen and hated both me and my Father. Jesus treats a response to himself as a response to the Father — the same posture toward both, because seeing one is seeing the other, as he says outright at John 14:9. Compare Acts 2:22, Hebrews 2:4, John 15:26.
