John 15:1

NT Gospels
John 15:1
1“I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard.
Read in NWT ↗
JW Usage

Read at the level of the imagery — Christ is the true vine, the Father is the cultivator who tends it — without the architectural implication for ecclesiology. The Watchtower's organisational model inserts a third tier: the Governing Body as the channel that distributes spiritual nourishment from the vine to the branches.

Protestant Usage

The architecture of the metaphor matters. Jesus says "I am the true vine; my Father is the cultivator." There are two roles in the metaphor and neither is a mediating organisation. The branches are the believers, attached directly to the vine. Pair with ("come to me"), ("one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus"), and ("approach the throne of grace with confidence"). Every believer has direct access to the vine; no organisational trunk has been inserted between Christ and the branch.
