# John 15:1

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> “I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "I am the true vine, and my Father is the cultivator."

## JW Usage

Read at the level of the imagery — Christ is the true vine, the Father is the cultivator who tends it — without the architectural implication for ecclesiology. The Watchtower's organisational model inserts a third tier: the Governing Body as the channel that distributes spiritual nourishment from the vine to the branches.

## Protestant Usage

The architecture of the metaphor matters. Jesus says "I am the true vine; my Father is the cultivator." There are two roles in the metaphor and neither is a mediating organisation. The branches are the believers, attached directly to the vine. Pair John 15:1 with Matthew 11:28 ("come to me"), 1 Timothy 2:5 ("one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus"), and Hebrews 4:16 ("approach the throne of grace with confidence"). Every believer has direct access to the vine; no organisational trunk has been inserted between Christ and the branch.

## Arguments Using This Verse

- [Come to ME — Direct Relationship with Christ](https://jw-apologetics.app/arguments/direct-relationship-with-god.md) — Matthew 11:28 / John 15:5 / 1 Timothy 2:5 — No organisation between you and the Saviour [Salvation]
- [The Vine Has Two Roles, Not Three](https://jw-apologetics.app/arguments/vine-not-channel-ecclesiology.md) — John 15:1, 15:5 — No Channel Between Christ and the Branch [Authority]
