John 10:28
John 10:2828I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.
Jehovah's Witnesses interpret Jesus' security language conditionally — the sheep must remain in the flock through continued obedience, organisational loyalty, and field service to benefit from Jesus' protection. The Watchtower teaches that while no external force can snatch believers away, a person can voluntarily leave by failing to meet Jehovah's requirements or by committing serious sin. Thus "no one will snatch them" is read as protection from external threats, not as unconditional assurance of final salvation.
"I give them eternal life, and they will by no means ever be destroyed, and no one will snatch them out of my hand" (NWT). Combined with verse 29 — "no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand" — this is one of the strongest assurance texts in the New Testament. Jesus claims personal authority to give eternal life (not merely make it possible) and declares a double security: his hand and the Father's hand. The verb "give" (didōmi) is present active — Jesus is actively giving eternal life as a present reality, not a future possibility. confirms the principle: "he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion." The question is not "will I be strong enough to hold on?" but "is the Shepherd faithful?" The answer is in the text: no one — including the sheep themselves — can overpower the hands of both the Son and the Father.
