# Jeremiah 23:6

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is His name by which He will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will reside in security. And this is the name by which he will be called: Jehovah Is Our Righteousness."

## JW Usage

Read as a title rather than an identity: the Messiah is given the name "Jehovah Is Our Righteousness" because his reign brings about righteousness for Jehovah's people, not because he himself is Jehovah. The Watchtower distinguishes name-bearing from nature-sharing — a distinction it makes nowhere else in Hebrew naming theology.

## Protestant Usage

Hebrew naming theology does not separate name from nature. When God called both Adam and Eve "Adam" (Genesis 5:2), he was not assigning a title — he was declaring what they were: human, sharing a nature, even while remaining two distinct persons. Pair Jeremiah 23:6 with Genesis 5:2 and the principle becomes the Trinitarian opening: a shared name signals a shared nature, not the same person. The Messiah who bears Jehovah's own name as his own name shares Jehovah's nature without being the Father. Add Isaiah 6:1 read through John 12:41 — Isaiah saw Jehovah on his throne; John says Isaiah saw Jesus' glory. The visible Jehovah of the Old Testament throne-room is the same person who later takes flesh in Jesus.
