# James 2:10

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

## JW Usage

James 2:10 — "whoever observes all the Law but makes a false step in one point, has become an offender against them all" (NWT) — is read by JWs as a warning against partial obedience. The Watchtower frames "the law of the Christ" as an integrated whole: meeting attendance, field service, abstinence from blood, loyalty to Jehovah's organisation. Failing in any one of these exposes the believer to spiritual jeopardy.

## Protestant Usage

James 2:10 is the demolition charge for any rule-based righteousness system, including the Watchtower's. Paul makes the same point at Galatians 3:10 ("everyone who depends on works of law is under a curse, for it is written: 'Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all the things written'"). The logic is universal: if standing with God depends on obedience, partial obedience is no obedience at all. The Watchtower's ongoing-compliance system inadvertently proves Paul's point — the believer is always one violation away from forfeit. The escape Paul names in Galatians 3:13 is "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us." Pair with Romans 3:19-20 (every mouth stopped, no flesh declared righteous by law-works) and the parachute-analogy (faith is the ceasing of effort, not its intensification).
