Isaiah 55:8
Isaiah 55:88“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
Readily affirmed — Jehovah's thoughts are above human thoughts, and Witnesses use the verse for humility before God's wisdom and for trusting his timing. It is not usually applied to the Trinity, where the Watchtower's objection runs the other way: that the doctrine should be rejected because it cannot be explained or pictured.
This is the answer to the objection that comes before the exegesis: "the Trinity doesn't make sense, so it can't be true." Concede the first half generously. Every popular illustration does break down. Water, ice and steam is modalism. The egg makes parts of God. The shamrock makes three gods. Witnesses are right about all of it, and agreeing costs nothing. Then reframe. No analogy drawn from the created order can fully model the Creator — that is true of every doctrine of God, not just this one. There is no good analogy for how an immaterial God made matter, or for existence without beginning, and both of you affirm those. Analogy-failure shows that God transcends creation, which is what says outright. Most Witnesses will grant this quickly because it is thoroughly familiar language. Once granted, the test shifts from "can I picture it?" to "what has God revealed?" — and that is the conversation worth having. Do not overplay it. Mystery is not a licence for contradiction, and the Trinity is not offered as one. Compare , , .
