# Isaiah 48:13

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Surely My own hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens; when I summon them, they stand up together.

## JW Usage

Jehovah's Witnesses accept that Isaiah 48:13 is Jehovah describing his creative work: "My own hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens." The Watchtower uses passages like this to emphasise that Jehovah is the ultimate Creator, with Jesus serving only as a subordinate agent or "master worker" (Proverbs 8:30, NWT). The creative act described here is attributed solely to Jehovah, which JWs argue precludes Jesus from being the Creator in the same ontological sense.

## Protestant Usage

Isaiah 48:13 identifies the speaker as Jehovah the Creator — "my own hand laid the foundation of the earth." This is the same speaker who in verse 16 says "the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has sent me, and his spirit," revealing that the Creator described in verse 13 is also the one sent by Jehovah. Hebrews 1:10 applies Psalm 102:25 — "In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth" — directly to the Son, identifying Jesus as the Jehovah who created. Colossians 1:16 confirms that "all things were created" through and for Jesus. The NWT itself acknowledges Hebrews 1:10 is addressed to the Son (see the context of Hebrews 1:8-12), yet declines to insert "Jehovah" at Hebrews 1:10 despite the passage quoting Psalm 102:25 (YHWH) — because doing so would identify Jesus as Jehovah. Even the Watchtower's own J8 reference reads "Lord Jehovah" at Hebrews 1:10, but the NWT ignores its own cited evidence at this point.
