Isaiah 45:19

OT Prophets
Isaiah 45:19
19I have not spoken in secret, from a place in a land of darkness. I did not say to the descendants of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in a wasteland.’ I, the LORD, speak the truth; I say what is right.

JW Usage

"I have not spoken in secret, in some place in a land of darkness" (NWT). The Watchtower cites as evidence that Jehovah does not conceal his message — and frames its own publishing programme (Watchtower magazine, Awake!, jw.org) as the modern equivalent of open declaration. The progressive disclosure technique used in Bible studies (where a student learns about shunning, blood policy, and Armageddon's destruction of non-JWs only after months of investment) is not treated as conflicting with this verse.

Protestant Usage

is the Old Testament charter for transparent ministry, and the Watchtower's gradual disclosure technique sits awkwardly under it. Pair with (Jesus: "I have spoken openly to the world... I said nothing in secret"), (Paul: "I did not hold back from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and from teaching you publicly and from house to house"), ("I have not held back from telling you all the counsel of God"), and ("we have renounced the shameful, underhanded things... by making the truth manifest we recommend ourselves"). The structural problem is not that individual JWs at the door are dishonest — they are following trained protocols — but that the protocols themselves contradict the openness Isaiah, Jesus, and Paul model. A truth that requires emotional investment before disclosure is not behaving like a truth claim; it is behaving like a recruitment funnel.
