# Isaiah 43:25

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> I, yes I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake and remembers your sins no more.

## JW Usage

Isaiah 43:25 — "I, I am the One who is blotting out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins" (NWT) — is read by JWs as Jehovah's promise of forgiveness to repentant Israel. The verse is occasionally cited in Watchtower studies on repentance, but the implications for forgiveness as a *completed* act (rather than an ongoing conditional grant) are not engaged.

## Protestant Usage

The Septuagint of Isaiah 43:25 uses the verb exaleiphō ("blot out") — the same verb Paul deploys at Colossians 2:14: God "erased the handwritten document that consisted of decrees and was in opposition to us." Paul treats the cross as the cosmic enactment of Isaiah 43:25's blotting-out — and the cancellation is "for my own sake," not because of human merit. Pair with Jeremiah 31:34 ("their sins I will remember no more") and Hebrews 8:12 (its New Testament citation). The blot-out language rules out any framework that treats forgiveness as continually re-earned through ongoing organisational service. The debt is not refinanced; it is erased.

## Arguments Using This Verse

- [The Certificate of Debt — Erased, Not Replaced](https://jw-apologetics.app/arguments/certificate-of-debt-nailed.md) — Colossians 2:13-15 [Salvation]
- [The Angel That Bore Jehovah's Name](https://jw-apologetics.app/arguments/acts-7-38-angel-name.md) — Acts 7:38, Exodus 23:20-23 — an angel who forgives sin and demands absolute obedience [Deity of Christ]
- [The Salvation-Name Dilemma](https://jw-apologetics.app/arguments/salvation-name-dilemma.md) — Old Testament — only Jehovah's name saves. New Testament — only Jesus' name saves. [Deity of Christ]
