Isaiah 26:4
Isaiah 26:44Trust in the LORD forever, because GOD the LORD is the Rock eternal.
"Trust in Jehovah forever, for Jah Jehovah is the eternal Rock" (NWT). The verse is a favourite Watchtower comfort text and is often deployed in literature about reliance on the organisation through trial. The "Jah Jehovah" doublet (preserved in the NWT) is also pointed to as evidence of the unique divine name's importance.
calls believers to trust the eternal Rock — Jehovah — forever. The New Testament's identification of "the Rock that followed them" with Christ () extends the trust-image to the Son: trusting the eternal Rock is trusting Christ. Pair with (the wise man builds on the Rock, identified by Christ as his own teaching) and (Christ as the rock of stumbling, quoting ). The Rock-trust pattern runs from to the New Testament's Christological re-application without rupture: the Old Testament trusts Jehovah-the-Rock forever, the New Testament identifies the Rock as Christ, and forever-trust in the Rock is one act with two testaments speaking it.
