Isaiah 12:2
Isaiah 12:22Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and He also has become my salvation.”
is one of the verses Watchtower literature uses to support the exclusive-Jehovah-name claim — "only Jehovah's Witnesses use Jehovah's name." The "Jah Jehovah" doublet here (preserved in the NWT) is treated as evidence that the divine name is woven into Hebrew worship and that any community refusing to use it has departed from biblical practice.
The exclusive-name claim collapses on inspection: the King James Version uses "Jehovah" at , , , and ; Reformed confessions use it; the hymn "Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah" (William Williams, 1745) is a Welsh Methodist hymn sung universally in Protestant worship. The deeper observation in is the wordplay: the Hebrew yeshu'ah ("salvation") shares its root with Yeshua — Jesus's Hebrew name. "He has become my yeshu'ah" reads, in the New Testament's light, as "he has become my Jesus." Pair with ("you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save") and ("there is no salvation in anyone else, for there is no other name under heaven... by which we must be saved"). The salvation Isaiah names in 12:2 is the salvation embodied in Jesus.
