JW Usage

— "the earth will certainly be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah as the waters cover the sea" — is one of the Watchtower's most-cited paradise-earth proof-texts. The verse is read as describing post-Armageddon conditions: only after the destruction of false religion and the binding of Satan will the earth actually be filled with accurate knowledge. The present age is taught to be the era of dwindling knowledge.

Protestant Usage

The water-imagery is decisive against a "future-only" reading. Waters covering the sea is a process, not a sudden event. The tide comes in gradually. Jesus's Great Commission () and Paul's witness that the gospel "is bearing fruit and increasing in all the world" () place the apostolic mission as the active inauguration of . By Paul could already say the gospel had been "preached in all creation under heaven." From 120 believers at Pentecost () to more than two billion who confess Jesus today, the trajectory matches the prophecy. The consummation is still future; the filling is already underway. Pair with (the same imagery) and the inaugurated- eschatology framework — already begun, not yet complete.
