NT Letters
Hebrews 9:12
12He did not enter by the blood of goats and calves, but He entered the Most Holy Place once for all by His own blood, thus securing eternal redemption.

JW Usage

JWs cite this verse in connection with the ransom doctrine — Jesus' blood secures the possibility of "everlasting deliverance" for those who meet Jehovah's requirements. The Watchtower also uses the blood imagery to support its prohibition on whole-blood transfusions, arguing that the sanctity of blood extends to a ban on receiving it medically.

Protestant Usage

Christ "entered the holy place once for all time and obtained everlasting deliverance for us." Three elements are decisive: "once for all time" (ephapax) excludes repetition or supplementation; "obtained" (heuramenos) is an aorist middle participle marking a completed acquisition; and "everlasting deliverance" (aiōnian lytrōsin) describes a redemption that cannot expire or be revoked. establishes that no man can redeem his brother — the price is always beyond human reach. But says God can redeem. If Jesus obtained what no man could, he must be more than a perfect human equivalent for Adam. The Watchtower's "corresponding ransom" (mathematical equivalence) fails here — insists "it is not with the gift as it was with the trespass," because the gift exceeds the debt.
