# Hebrews 7:3

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Without father or mother or genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God, he remains a priest for all time.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "In being fatherless, motherless, without genealogy, having neither a beginning of days nor an end of life, but being made like the Son of God, he remains a priest for all time."

## Protestant Usage

Melchizedek appears in Genesis with no recorded parents, genealogy, birth or death, and Hebrews draws on that silence: "having neither a beginning of days nor an end of life, but being made like the Son of God." The direction matters. Melchizedek is "made like" the Son, so the Son is the original and Melchizedek the copy, shaped in the record to resemble him. What is true of Melchizedek only on paper is true of the Son in reality: he serves "by the power of an indestructible life" (7:16). A Son who truly has no beginning of days is not a creature with a first moment of existence.

## Arguments Using This Verse

- [Jesus Must Be a Man Now — The Melchizedek Priesthood](https://jw-apologetics.app/arguments/melchizedek-priesthood.md) — "He always lives to make intercession for them" (Hebrews 7:25) [Deity of Christ]
