JW Usage

"Therefore, holy brothers, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the apostle and high priest whom we confess — Jesus." JWs typically apply "heavenly calling" specifically to the 144,000 anointed Christians who alone share the heavenly hope. The verse is read as evidence for the two-class soteriology: the Hebrews-letter audience are the anointed; the great crowd is outside the heavenly calling.

Protestant Usage

's "heavenly calling" is a possession of the entire church, parallel to ("blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places") and ("our citizenship exists in the heavens"). The same chapter identifies Jesus as the "Moses" of the new covenant (3:2-6) — faithful over God's house — and explicitly says "we are this house" (3:6). The "we" extends to every reader, not a subset. Pair with the plural-eldership argument: a "Moses" figure with successors at the head of God's house would be a recapitulation of the old covenant; the new covenant has Christ as the Moses and a plural-eldership distributed across local congregations, not a single mediating successor body.
