Hebrews 12:24
Hebrews 12:2424to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
The Watchtower's mediator doctrine restricts Jesus's mediatorial office to the 144,000 anointed who are parties to the new covenant (The Watchtower, April 1, 1979, p. 31; Worldwide Security, 1986, pp. 10-11). The great crowd of "other sheep" are not in the new covenant; they are beneficiaries who receive blessings indirectly by association with the anointed remnant. On this reading, 's "mediator of a new covenant" describes a limited service for a limited class — and most Jehovah's Witnesses are excluded.
closes off the two-class reading from inside the text. The passage (12:22-24) describes the "heavenly Jerusalem," the "assembly of the firstborn enrolled in the heavens," the spirits of the righteous made perfect, God the Judge of all, Jesus the mediator, and the sprinkled blood. These are the blessings every believer comes to. There is no subcategory of believers who come only to the outer court. Pair with (one mediator between God and all men) and (propitiation for the whole world). The "sprinkled blood speaks better than Abel" also closes a canonical loop back to — Abel's blood cried for vengeance, Christ's blood cries for reconciliation. The doorstep question: "Is Jesus your mediator? says the mediator belongs to everyone coming to Mount Zion. The Watchtower says he belongs only to 144,000. Which do you believe?"
