# Hebrews 10:24

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds.

## JW Usage

Hebrews 10:24 is usually cited by JWs as the introduction to verse 25 — the meeting-attendance verse. On the Watchtower reading, "consider one another to incite to love and fine works" is the motivational frame, and the substantive command follows in verse 25 ("not forsaking our meeting together"). Meeting attendance at the Kingdom Hall becomes the primary application.

## Protestant Usage

The syntax is the opposite of the Watchtower reading. Hebrews 10:24-25 is a single sentence, and the imperative is in verse 24: "let us *consider* one another to incite to love and fine works." The participle in verse 25 ("not forsaking") modifies the imperative — it describes one way the command is fulfilled, not the command itself. The imperative is relational encouragement; the participle notes that ongoing fellowship is the natural context for it. Early Christian meetings were in homes (Romans 16:5, Colossians 4:15, 1 Corinthians 16:19, Philemon 1:2), unscheduled by a central authority, small and relational. Two Christians in a kitchen discussing Scripture fulfil Hebrews 10:24 exactly. A room of 200 people listening to a prescribed Watchtower talk with no mutual conversation can miss it entirely.
