Hebrews 10:14
Hebrews 10:1414because by a single offering He has made perfect for all time those who are being sanctified.
JWs interpret Jesus' sacrifice as making salvation possible rather than actual — the sacrifice opens the door, but individuals must still meet Jehovah's ongoing requirements. The word "perfect" is reframed as a future goal attainable through compliance rather than a present status conferred by the sacrifice itself.
The writer of Hebrews states that "by one sacrificial offering he has made those who are being sanctified perfect for all time." The perfect tense "has made perfect" (teteleiōken) marks a completed act with permanent results — "for all time" (eis to diēnekes) underscores its finality. The contrast with is decisive: Old Testament priests stood daily because their work was never finished; Jesus "sat down at the right hand of God" (10:12) because his work is complete. Adding human requirements to a finished sacrifice does not supplement it — it denies its sufficiency. makes this explicit: "if righteousness is through law, Christ actually died for nothing."
