Galatians 1:8
Galatians 1:88But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse!
JWs apply this warning to Christendom, arguing that mainstream churches preach a false gospel of the Trinity, hellfire, and immortal soul — "another sort of good news" corrupted by pagan influence. The Watchtower positions itself as restoring the original apostolic gospel.
Paul warns that even "an angel from heaven" preaching a different gospel is accursed (anathema). Three religious movements claim angelic authority: Islam (Jibril dictated the Quran), Mormonism (Moroni delivered golden plates), and JWs (Jesus is Michael the Archangel). The JW application is uniquely sharp because their Christology collapses the Saviour into the very category Paul warns about — their Jesus is literally "an angel from heaven." The corruption-claim strategy is itself a pattern: Muslims, Mormons, and JWs all undermine confidence in the Bible just enough to create a gap, then insert their own authority as the corrective. Three contradictory "corrections," one shared method. Paul's gospel — justification by faith apart from works () — stands against all three.
